| 1. | Mail Call for All A. A.s in the Armed Forces "Dear Bud: I feel like a rat not having answered your letter long ago; I'm afraid I'm not a very good correspondent. At least I can now tell you where I am--Maui is the spot, the Hawaiian Islands the locale. This must be almost anti-climactic for you to hear, as I'm sure by this time you have pictured me anywhere but here--probably down under, in a jungle surrounded by Japs. However, I'm in no hurry; I'll probably get there soon enough. | July 1944 | |
| 2. | Time on Our Hands (by Kay M.'s husband, Bob) Here I am, back at last, where I've wanted to be for a long time--in front of a modeling stand with a lump of clay in my hands. It was a long, long time ago that I modeled and cast my first figure, Fanny Flatbottom. | December 1944 | |
| 3. | A. A.s Country-wide News Circuit To sum up the symposium on alcoholism recently conducted in Cleveland by The Research Council on Problems of Alcohol, science seems to be standing on the threshold of the alcohol problem, and the "area of agreement" on what is known is small indeed when compared to the area of agreement on what is not known. Dr. Abraham Myerson observed: "We are not failing to treat the alcoholic as he should be treated because we do not have time, nor because there aren't enough psychiatrists, but because we don't know how." A second doctor remarked that there is still a slight moral stigma attached to drinking and society doesn't want the alcoholic treated as a sick man, it wants him ... | February 1945 | |
| 4. | Mail Call for All A.A.s in the Armed Forces (by Hugh B.) We are fortunate in having received from an A.A. participant, a sergeant of Infantry, a vivid account of the battle for Germany and his reactions: | June 1945 | |
| 5. | Man's Triumvirate (by John J.) O. -- Symbolizing the unity of A.A., over 2,500 members of the fellowship and their friends from 36 states, two Canadian provinces, and Mexico gathered in Cleveland's Music Hall on June 10 to commemorate and pay tribute to Bill W. and Dr. Bob on the 10th anniversary of the founding of the movement. | July 1945 | |
| 6. | The Pleasures of Reading (by F. G.) Manhattan -- Contrary to popular legend, it is not good to stay young forever. Immaturity in the adult is a trouble maker. One of the great things about A.A. is that we learn to grow up. | August 1945 | |
| 7. | Vacation Time's Here! All A.A.s Will Beware! The mailman today gave forth with a couple of those "Having wonderful time, wish you were here" postcards, a reminder that we're right in the midst of the good old summertime. | August 1945 | |
| 8. | Mail Call for All A.A.s at Home Or Abroad (by J.F.H.) California -- I have received so much benefit out of the 12 Steps as Specification for my New Home that I would like to pass on to others the way the 4th and 10th Steps work in them. | August 1946 | |
| 9. | Wilful Thinkers (by H. B. P.) Ohio -- So many persons have said to me, "How did you stop drinking; did something happen to you?" Even among fellow A.A.s this question keeps popping up, and many of us have no adequate answer. My personal feeling is that something did happen, and that something is the realization of sobriety. | September 1946 | |
| 10. | Mail Call for All A.A.s at Home Or Abroad (by J.F.H.) California -- Below me on the track I see a line of men, knees bent, hands on the ground, toes dug in, strained and tense, waiting for the starting gun, the crack of which will launch them on a grueling grinding competitive race for the finish line, where there can be only one winner. If any falter and fall, if any slip or hesitate, he is lost because no one will pause to help him back in the race. To those left it means there is one less in the race to stay. | October 1946 | |
