Vol. 66 No. 13
Editor's NoteDear Readers, Thousands of AAs will gather in San Antonio, Texas, from July 1-4 to celebrate AA's 75th anniversary at the 2010 International Convention. For those who can't join the party, the stories in this month's special section give a taste of what celebrating AA-style is like. First, we have a message reflecting on the convention theme, "A Vision for Us," by Ward Ewing, the AA General Service Board's nonalcoholic chair. Then "Bikes and Bagpipes" shows an up-close and personal view of the annual Founders' Day event that celebrates the June 10, 1935, birth of AA in Akron, Ohio. Finally, in "Party in the Park," a member from San Antonio shares his memories of the Toronto 2005 Convention. In this same spirit of celebrating sobriety one day at a time, a woman shares her journey from darkness to light in "Recovery is a Wonderland." "Today I have become the person I always wanted to be," she writes. Similarly, a Native American compares AA to a shelter that houses an entire clan in "The Longhouse." And an AA who got sober as a teen writes, "I could help so many young people if I stayed sober," in "Railroaded." Whether you are celebrating your sobriety with thousands of other AAs or just sharing your story from one alcoholic to another, it is this pure joy of living and our bond and fellowship with other members that feed our recovery. Happy, happy birthday, AA. — In fellowship, |
