I once heard, “Learn from the mistakes of others so you won’t make them yourself.” I will always remember Bill L. whenever I hear that quote. I was fairly new around AA back in 1989 when one day I got a call from my sponser. He said, “Go to the hospital and pick up Bill L. and bring him to the meeting tonight.”
I went to the hospital to get this newcomer and I was really surprised. This guy didn’t need a meeting, I thought, he was too far gone. The doctor’s prognosis was bad: possibly wet brain with little chance of any recovery.
