OF MICE AND MEN - News, comments and letters from and about AA's worldwide outposts and centers--gleaned from letters to the Grapevine and the General Service Office, and from the "AA Exchange Bulletin," published monthly by GSO.

WHAT'S the bit about the best laid plans of mice and men?

Perhaps you can remember when I started the Salt Water Group last winter? Well, it turned into something entirely different than planned. When oyster season closed last May, my patrol boat was called to port to get new engines. That left me with an outboard hull to tend my duties with. Orleans' AAs don't like to ride in small hulls way out here on the Gulf's edge, so my group suffered from lack of visiting members all summer. To offset this condition I started to write to loners like myself, and now the Salt Water Group is a clearing house for loners. In the winter I don't get many visitors. This country is hell on people and boats.
