Waking Up Sober

Early this morning, around four o'clock or so, a rooster crowed outside my window. (I live in the country where roosters have the bad habit of crowing in the early morning.) Groggily I opened one eye and began thinking evil thoughts of gourmet recipes for roasted rooster. Then around five I heard the milkman go by. (Yes, here in the country, we still have milkmen!) I then had two items on my list of resentments to be dealt with for today: roosters and milkmen. But I still stayed in bed, savoring the forthcoming day.
