The Man at the Table

My name is Tom and I'm an alcoholic. My sobriety date is May 1971. As Christmas is approaching, my thoughts wander back to my drinking days, the shame and remorse I felt on Christmas Day. My thoughts were always the same: next year it would be different. It was always going to be different. No one had the answer for me. When my wife asked me why I did the things I did after a drink, I always told her the truth. I always said, "I don't know why." No one had the answer for me. It wasn't until I walked into the rooms of AA that I got the answer.
