Say the Magic Words

Our precious sayings get this alcoholic through the day

It took me some time into sobriety to discover that all the tools I needed to stay sober and get along within the Fellowship of AA were the same tools I needed to get along in the outside world. Each slogan could be applied to many areas of my life. The discipline of showing up to meetings, AA events, and appointments with my sponsor leaked over into me taking responsibility in my life. The “Attitude of Gratitude” for my sobriety led to gratitude for the many blessings that were already there in my life that I did not see. Learning to resolve the conflicts I had with sponsors and members of AA without drinking became the tools to help me get along with others in my life. The “One Day at a Time” slogan was one of the first I used, and today remains one of my favorites, along with “Don’t Take Yourself so Darn Seriously.”
