Recovery Outside the Fellowship

Responses from readers concerning the article in the January 1998 issue: "Meetings, Meetings, Meetings?"

I have to applaud your decision to run an article that is outside the mainstream of AA. I'm sure you'll get a number of negative responses, since the article suggests people can quit going to meetings and stay sober. But I'm glad you ran it, because it represents a segment of the recovering community we don't often hear from, because it takes a shot at one of AA's unofficial sacred cows, and because the author reminds us that prayer and meditation--not meetings--were considered "musts" in the beginning.
