A cyclist's celebration

Responses from readers to the question, "Where do you intend to be on New Year's Eve?"

As I've done for the past twenty-two years, I will be running on New Year's Eve at the stroke of midnight. Here in Florida, we have a five-mile out-and-back run on a bicycle path, which begins at 11:45. Hopefully, I'll be able to kiss my husband at the turnaround point. On January 1, at daylight, I plan to be the first person to bicycle the first perimeter of the Year 2000 here in Florida, and I'll be thanking my Higher Power for the miracle of my twenty-one years of continuous sobriety. (P.S., a bicycle perimeter is a ride of fifty miles or more around any geographical boundary, such as a city, county, mountain range, island, lake, etc.)
