I approached my precious "meeting in print" with some trepidation after the 9/11 events. I was concerned that our meeting might be politicized by "flag wavers" or those I would consider apologists. I've taken people aside after a meeting and admonished them if I felt they were being too political, whether I agreed with them or not.

In the past, there was concern about how our newly sober boys would fare on the battlefields in World War II, and the stories show they did well. AA didn't pretend the war did not exist,...
