AA Grapevine Readers Respond to "Singleness of Purpose--what Are AAs Saying Today?" Featured in the May 2004 Issue

A sea of other issues

I have to agree with the author of "Has Singleness of Purpose Become Narrowness of Purpose?" that we in AA often do a bad job of dealing with this issue. How AAs can say that any mention of drugs is forbidden is absolutely ridiculous.

However, I do disagree with the rest of his opinion. There are many other addictions besides drugs that also afflict those attending AA meetings, and there are places to address those issues. Certainly we should try to help newcomers find their way to them, if any issues remain problematic.
