Alcoholism drives up hospitalization costs

Fourteen percent of patients admitted to the hospital have alcohol or drug abuse and addiction (ADAA) disorders, costs for which have risen sharply in recent years, according to a study published in the June 2008 Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment.
