Cult-like or just welcoming?
Time to start a new group?
I want to assure Bob H. that many of us are listening, and have felt the same contempt and dread for the cultish AA vocabulary, handshaking, clapping, smiling and hugging that seemed to prevail at meetings when we first arrived.
But being of an open mind and curious even as I skate the edge of senility, I urge you, Bob, to add a coffeepot and a few like-minded friends to the resentments you expressed, and form your own AA group with a format forbidding the chanting, hand-holding, arm-pumping, shouting, etc. I would be keenly interested in attending your meetings to see for myself...
