February 2014: Letter from the Editor

The rewards for seeking emotional sobriety are serenity, emotional balance and an increased joy of living. As we gain time in AA, use the Steps and tools, and stay close to our Higher Power, our hope is, as our co-founder Bill W. said in The Language of the Heart, “to be set free to live and love.” This month’s special section features stories about emotional sobriety.

In the article “Paradise Found,” a much-traveled, long-time member in Tasmania tells how AA helped him find contentment. A woman in Pennsylvania discovers the ability to be at peace with herself at a womens’ AA retreat in “Cool Sand On My Feet.” For 20 years, a group of Texas businessmen have incorporated AA in all their affairs in “In Houston, It’s All Business.” And in the sweet tale “Pestered,” a member in California says that when everything bothers him, he tries to remember the things that really count.
