Signing for Sobriety

A deaf woman in Washington gets sober and passes it on

I am a member of AA and I am also deaf. This is my story. I first came into AA when I was 19. But after only a year and half, I went back out.

I didn't return to AA for another four years. When I came back, I stayed sober this time for five years. However, I had various health problems arise probably due to binge eating. I had become morbidly obese and suffered from depression.

I was out for eight long years. I became very angry, bitter and isolated. In the last year of those years of drinking, I had bariatric surgery.

I lost some weight, and got some of my self-esteem...
