On a boozy vacation, a newcomer scrambles fast to stay sober and keep her liver alive

Four months before I got sober, I booked an all-inclusive vacation for a friend and me. It was meant to be a drinking vacation. My plan was to stay at the resort and do as much damage to my liver as possible. But when my bottom came along two months before our departure date, I couldn't pass it up.

I knew that if I drank again, I would probably die. It didn't matter what holidays or events were coming up. I was finally at that jumping-off point. So I went to AA and white-knuckled my way through the first three Steps, but I didn't cancel my vacation.
