Drunk in Church

Her search for faith upstairs on Sundays found a home in the rooms below

About five years ago, when I was first introduced to AA, I had only been drinking like an alcoholic for four months. Before that I had had a period of five years when I didn’t have a drop. I started drinking again when I was suffering from depression and had trouble going to sleep. I went to a psychiatrist looking for help, and he suggested that I have a glass of wine at night to “help me relax.” It only took me a couple of weeks before I was drinking every night until I passed out.

Then four months later, on a day off, I drank so much I became suicidal. I was so desperate I asked my husband to get me some help. I ended up in the psych ward for 10 days. They really didn’t help much with the depression, but they told me to go to AA.
