There's a reason for having three steps to take before starting the process of looking at ourselves. The first three steps help us to remove ego and fear, because if this wasn't done first, no one would dare look any further into themselves.
I can remember my first Fourth Step, which I did when I was less than a year sober. It was a long list of resentments, and a very small list of harms done to others. I still saw myself as the victim in everything in my past. I was still blaming everyone else for what was wrong with my life.
