Despite sometimes having an arrogant exterior, an alcoholic is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
However, these feelings don’t usually involve anyone else.

Near the end of my drinking, I stumbled into a bar around 2 a.m., and ordered a drink. The bartender said, “I think you’ve had enough.” Humiliated, I left and went home. In all my years of AA, no one has ever said to me, “I think you’ve had enough!”
