When the World Came Apart

He was sober 12 years when he faced some incredible challenges

I went to my first meeting in 1976 and finally got sober in 1982. I spent the next six years working the Steps with my sponsor, attending meetings, being involved in service and carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

In 1988 I started working at a local mining company, making good money and living the good life. I got married to a sober alcoholic thinking that I would grow old with her. We bought a house. I thought I would retire from the company when I reached retirement age, and pay off our 30-year mortgage.
