Stockholm Connection

Meetings, dancing and great memories of dad—boy did he get on the right train

Two years ago, I was fortunate to attend the SCANCYPAA (All-Scandinavia Convention of Young People in AA) in Stockholm, and to my surprise I had a really profound experience. I’m Icelandic, but I moved to Oslo last August. I was alone for the weekend with my girlfriend and the kids were still in Iceland, so I decided to check it out.

I didn’t really know a single person there and no one from my group was going. Sitting on that six-hour train ride, I started to kind of regret the whole deal, but I decided to just be open to the experience. I went to all the meetings and talked to people and had a great time. There were crazy alcoholics there from many countries. I started feeling like I was in a big AA bubble full of love and connectedness.
