Starting Out in Al-Anon

She didn't think she had a problem with alcohol until she got to the Fourth Step

My relationship with doing inventories began years before I came to AA. I was a member of Al-Anon long before I caught the disease of alcoholism. I was pretty much in denial. I couldn't figure out why my Al-Anon friends didn't want to go out for drinks after the meetings. We weren't the alcoholics. We could drink!

I started working the Steps with a conveniently unavailable sponsor. We got to the Fourth Step and she told me that I needed to find someone else to work with. She didn't have the time. Instead of finding another sponsor, I found a therapist.
