A Tale of Two Saturdays

The difference between the two was the world--and one drink

I spent last Saturday afternoon with a close family relative as he struggled through his tears to say goodbye to his father at a memorial service. His father drank himself to death after decades of unchecked and untreated alcohol abuse.

The following Saturday I spent with him again and this time, listened to his laughter as we celebrated his birthday by telling stories of the happy times we have had together over the 25 years our family has been blessed to have him in our midst.
