I had been bouncing in and out of the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous for eight years when I got my third DUI. Until then, meetings were very important to me after a frightening blackout, a lost relationship or humiliating event. But after a few short days, the raging compulsion to drink would return and I couldn't seem to control the outcome.
