The man behind the curtain

An old-timer finds that a Twelfth Step call right after surgery is a delightful operation.

After a recent surgical procedure, I woke up in my hospital room, which was separated with a curtain. When the other patient was brought into the room, the attendant asked him what his plans were for the future. I listened intently because I wanted to know something about my new roommate. The gentleman remarked that he had fallen off a ladder and injured himself and that he was going to have two people from AA call on him to talk about the program. I was excited beyond imagination. Here I was, nearly 50 years sober, away from my AA meetings, which I regularly attended at the rate of 40 per month, and a Twelfth Step call was right behind my curtain.
