Sober date

A sponsee's relationship with his sponsor is an important anniversary

My recovery date and my AA sobriety anniversary date are two different days on the calendar. My recovery anniversary date is the day I asked a man who seemed to have what I wanted to sponsor me. That's the day I took action on the first word of the First Step. That's the day recovery began for me.

Having a sponsor to go through the Steps with and acting as a sponsor for others has been the place where most of my character has changed. The character defect of intense and foolish pride that I can do it all myself, more often than not is replaced with the character asset of humility. I need God through the help of others to get better.
