The Sun in My Eyes

A story of two different mornings and a lifetime in between

I could feel the sun burning my eyes. To any other person, it would have been a beautiful spring morning. But for me it was the end. I could no longer go on living the way I had been. For too long, I had used and abused my body with alcohol.

Stumbling to my feet, I found my way to the mirror. The reflection I saw was a sad sight. Dark black circles outlined my bloodshot eyes and my hands trembled as I tried to wipe the night before off my face. I was sickened by what I saw. I felt spiritually destroyed and empty. I had two options: Drink myself into a somewhat normal state like I had done so many mornings before, or give up this time and ask for help. I picked up the phone and asked for help. I was 22 and I had hit rock bottom.
