Lost in the Outer Banks

I spent my childhood living in the home of an angry, hard-working, but also hard-drinking man. Every night, I watched him turn into a raging alcoholic and I could not understand how someone I loved so dearly could behave the way he did. I knew I’d never, ever, make my own children feel the fear and despair I experienced.
