An alcoholic with a happy upbringing speaks up
I really don’t like to hear comments at meetings that start out with, “All alcoholics …,” usually followed by some generalization about our families, traits, or physical, mental or emotional health.
I can safely say that “All alcoholics” do not come in a “one-size-fits-all” package. Alcoholism is an equal-opportunity illness, and our members come from diverse ethnic, social, intellectual, educational and economic backgrounds. We are short, tall, slender, heavy, blonde, brunette, bald, young, old, crotchety and lovable.
