No House, No Dog

The tough choices she made in early sobriety paid off in a most beautiful way

I come from a large family of alcoholics, 10 in all. My siblings and I all have different fathers. There was a lot in our family—a lot of physical abuse, a lot of sexual abuse, a lot of verbal abuse and an absence of boundaries. I could say my childhood was the reason why I drank, but I prefer to think it left me predisposed to drink. I wanted to check out of the ordinary life that I felt I could not escape and that made me feel angry and bitter. My family showed me the doorway to an alternate universe where I could relax, sit back and enjoy the ride. I was afraid to do drugs. Alcohol was defiantly my drug of choice.
