She became a GSR to find romance. She fell in love alright -- with the Fellowship

I initially got into service for all the wrong reasons. I was four years sober when I became my home group’s General Service Representative (GSR). My husband had died the year before, and I figured I was ready for a new relationship. Yes, that’s right. I figured I could find a guy by doing service.

I wanted to be with someone in AA, but I didn’t want to go near newcomers. So becoming a GSR sounded perfect for my scheme. After all, it’s suggested that GSRs should have two years sober or more. Thanks to the three assemblies a year, I would get to meet people from all over the area. Of course, part of my rational mind was saying that it was for the good of AA to get involved, but my ulterior motives were to get a date.
