His trips to the canyon to search for meaning now provide some answers

When I was in the depths of my use and abuse of mind- and mood-altering substances, I often thought I should stop. But then I’d ask myself, What’s the point? I’d just give in and drink again. I was good at finding any reason under the sun to buy a bottle. And once it was open, it was anything goes. Why should I stop? I’d ask myself. I’m not harming anyone.
