January 2013: Editor's Letter

It’s a wonderful thing when alcoholics find AA early and avoid years heavy drinking and are spared, as Bill W. wrote, “that last 10 or 15 years of literal hell the rest of us had gone through.” But it can be challenging to get sober young. We think … Am I ready yet? Do I fit in? Will I ever have fun again? Well, there’s hope. This month’s issue features inspiring stories by alcoholics who got sober in their teens, 20s and 30s.

In “Still a Great Ride,” a man returns to his beloved young peoples’ meeting where, long ago, he learned everything he needed to stay sober. “On the Road to WACYPAA” is a fun adventure about an Irish visitor and her newcomer friend who drive up the California coast to discover exciting new friends in AA. And a newly sober teen shows how he got through proms, graduations, weddings, and even deaths, in “Party Time.”
