May 2013: 50 Preambles

By the age of seven I had been to seven states. I tried to get to as many states as I could from then on, and with some help from my parents I made it to 32 states by age 14. It became a goal for me to get to all 50 states before I turned 50. And I made it—with 10 years to spare.

I joined AA in my home state of West Virginia while in my mid-40s. With Ohio and Pennsylvania so close, a sister in California, a brother in Colorado, cousins in Florida, and a family reunion in Maryland, I was able to attend AA meetings in those states.
