Miracle in Hollywood

After years of relapsing, he finally connected to AA at a recovery house in the town known for making dreams come true

I walked up the steps of a recovery house in Hollywood, California in November of 1996. After my six years of relapsing in Alcoholics Anonymous, my sponsor informed me that it was “the last house on the block” for me.  I was so desperate at that moment, I believed him.

I had started drinking when I was 19. It was the first time I recall feeling deeply comfortable being in the world. It made me feel excited, happy and friendly. Problem is, I drank alcoholically right away.
