The power needed

Last winter, my furnace stopped working on a really cold day. The furnace’s thermostat shut down because the batteries had run out, so the furnace stopped putting out any heat. So I hurried in my car to the local store to get some new batteries for the thermostat.

“We’re out of batteries,” said the man working there, “but you can get some at the liquor store down the block.”

Liquor store? For batteries? Well, it would save me driving elsewhere, so I walked a few doors...
