A happy mending

A disastrous start to an overseas trip was saved by some cheerful, service-loving Brits

Soon after I got sober, my husband and I started traveling internationally as well as “locally” in Mexico, Canada and the U.S. I was quick to realize that I am still an alcoholic, no matter what country I’m in. I’m out of my comfort zone the minute I leave New Mexico. My life quickly becomes more unpredictable and powerlessness sets in. Ever since I got sober in 1981, I’ve taken very seriously the suggestion about attending daily AA meetings. When I’m traveling, I need meetings more than when I’m at home where, I fancy, I’m in

I’m always surprised to hear AA people declare that they didn’t get to any meetings on their travels.
Sometimes, of course, it can’t be helped because there are no meetings or there is no transportation or the press of business prohibits personal time for meetings and so on.
