August 2013: Dear Grapevine

Tears of happiness poured down my face, like the rain.

Gray sky, happy heart
It’s a gloomy day here in Wisconsin. Raining now for two days. I was bleaching my sink this morning with my sad old blue rubber gloves. I stopped and stared out the window as I do almost every morning. No sign of the end of this storm. I set my coffee cup down, and realized it was only 6:40 a.m., and I was on my second cup already!

Suddenly tears of happiness poured down my face, like the rain, as I realized that this is what I do every day. This simple thing of waking up, doing the dishes and drinking coffee—it’s my normal now. It doesn’t occur to me to find my hidden bottles to finish them off, and curse myself over all the work to be done around the house, another day wasted.
