Remember doing the fire drills in grade school? There was a very good reason for doing them. It has proved beneficial over and over. I once worked at a hospital where fire drills happened over and over until people were sick of them. Yet, when fire did break out in the dead of an extremely cold winter's night, everyone was evacuated safely with no injuries.

On the other hand, my friend told me about a fire at his home when he was a child. His mother carefully carried the feather beds down the stairs, but threw the dishes out the window. They had had no fire drills.
