September 2013: Dear Grapevine

We sailed past the waterfront and anchored in deep water for swimming and sunbathing.

Newcomer boat
My dear AA friend, Doug, is a very skilled sailor and lives on his prized blue water cruiser in Washington. One of Doug’s many acts of service work is taking fellow AA members out sailing. Last June, I got to spend a perfect summer day with Doug and other members. We sailed past the waterfront and anchored in deep water for swimming and sun-bathing. That evening we disembarked and walked to the Millennium Group AA meeting. It was one of the best days of my life.

When Doug was still out there drinking, he and his boat “Whiskey Run” matched up well. But now that he was sober, the boat’s name made him uncomfortable. He wanted to change it, but it was a lengthy process and was expensive. It was also believed by many to bring “bad luck.”
