September 2013: Here in My Funk

Some days are down, but we have the tools to get back up

I’ve been sober for some time now and, for the most part, my life is so much better than it ever was before recovery. I usually wake up in the morning with feelings of positive expectations. I’m excited about who I may see, who may call, what may happen. As I await God’s “directions,” I get busy taking care of what’s in front of me. That may mean getting to a meeting, being of service in some fashion, or just simply getting through the day with a smile on my face and good feelings about where I am and who I am today.

Every now and then I wake up feeling down. You know, a blah day. It’s just part of my life, and I know that I’ll get through it in some fashion. Sometimes I wake up and don’t feel like doing anything. I will loll around and stay in my PJs. I’ll get bored and turn on the TV or find a movie I haven’t seen before. I won’t feel like talking to anyone, so I won’t pick up the telephone. I’ll play endless games of solitaire on the computer, eat, sleep, and sigh.
