One bit of obnoxious unsolicited advice I often got from my mother in childhood was that I should just be myself. But I didn't have a clue how to do that as I didn't know what I was. My head seemed to think I was more important than anyone else while my gut told me I was worthless.
I hit a bad patch when I was about a year sober. I couldn't go to more meetings as I was hitting about 10 a week, so I had to have a go at Steps 4 and 5 even though I didn't have much of a handle on the first three.
