ALCOHOLISM is INCREASING, according to Dr. William C. Menninger, noted psychiatrist. Dr. Menninger was one of the speakers at the recent thirty-eighth annual conference of the American College of Physicians in Boston. "Although the public is being apprised daily of what alcoholism is and how it can be treated, unfortunately it is increasing," he said in an interview with the Boston Daily Record. Dr. Menninger also warned that "addiction to alcohol is striking down one out of every fifty employees in industry today. . . Alcoholics Anonymous has done a wonderful job. They have done a better job than we have done in medicine. . . The general hospital must begin to accept alcoholics as patients. . . The curbing of this disease rests with industry, the doctors and the alcoholic himself."
