Specialist: 'No sicker emotionally than others'

Most problem drinkers are no sicker emotionally than other people, but are just social drinkers who have gone wrong, says a specialist in alcoholism.

Dr. Paul O'Hollaren, chief of staff of the Shadel Hospital in Seattle, Wash., said he and his colleagues have developed experimental biochemical and enzyme therapies that succeed in destroying the craving for alcohol.

"The enzyme therapies are not a cure for alcoholism," Dr. O'Hollaren said, "but they make it possible for family doctors to handle most drinking...
