Alcoholism Worries Ireland

DUBLIN--Ireland, which boasts the greatest number of pledged nondrinkers per capita in the world, is worried by a growing problem of alcoholism.

A government commission, set up to study mental illness, reported an alarming increase in the incidence of alcoholism.

This despite the fact that Ireland has a vast army of men and women--more than half a million out of a population of 3 1/2 million--pledged never to take alcoholic liquor.
