Sharp Rise in Deaths Noted for Alcoholics

NEW YORK--The growing importance of alcoholism as a medical-social problem is reflected by an increase in the death rate from alcoholic disorders of almost 60 percent over the past 15 years.

Statistics compiled by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. show a mortality rate of 8.7 per 100,000 in 1964, rising from 5.5 in 1950.
