Awash in Suds

This year is expected to be the 10th consecutive one to set a new high in beer sales. The upward trend started in 1947, the best year the beer industry had ever had up to that time, with a total of 87.2 million barrels sold. Sales did not reach that level again until 1959, when they rose to 87.6 million barrels.

The over-all picture for the year is bright, according to the United States Brewers Association. This organization estimates that sales this year will total 111 million barrels, about 4 percent more than the 106,974,000 barrels sold in all 1967. Last year's increase over 1966 was 2.6 percent.
