Enlisting the Business Community

To have a successful [alcoholism] program we must put people back in productivity, and productivity in the U.S.A., whether we like it or not, means "Is he a taxpayer or is he a tax consumer?" Now we have had great programs in the past ten years which enlist professional help-givers, the social workers, the public health nurses, the police, Alcoholics Anonymous, and others. What we have failed to do, in my opinion, is to develop the employer group, particularly the supervisory groups in our industry. Rotary Clubs would have an excellent opportunity to mount a really important campaign in this direction.
