Back-to-Work Program

ST. PAUL, MINN.--J. Doyle Kirby has placed more than 300 recovered alcoholics in jobs in this city. Mr. Kirby is Counselor on Alcoholism in the Minnesota State Employment Service, the only-such counselor in any state employment service in the country. . . .

He works with those who recognize their problem, have taken steps to correct it, and have evidenced their readiness to resume their vocational place in the work force. They must meet [one of] the following criteria: have spent time in a hospital or institution for treatment; be a member of AA; be a halfway-house resident; be referred by a community agency specifying that the applicant has a problem.
