More Women Alcoholics

They (female alcoholics) are different from their male counterparts because so many of them are housewives, who can hide their drinking in the home. A male alcoholic is more likely to be discovered because of absenteeism, lateness, or hangovers on the job.

But despite her "invisibility," experts in the field of alcoholism say her number is growing. Ten years ago, statisticians figured there were five male alcoholics for every woman alcoholic. Now, there is a suspicion that the ratio could be 3 to 1, or even 2 to 1.
